Dr. Scholl's unveils two new concepts

WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. -- Merck Consumer Care has brought two innovative entries to the foot care category with the introduction of Dr. Scholl's For Her Fast Flats and Dr. Scholl's Custom Fit Orthotic Centers.

Fast Flats are foldable shoes that fit discreetly in a purse and come equipped with a wristlet for easy storage and portability. They are the latest addition to the For Her line of foot care products geared specifically for women, which debuted five years ago with insoles designed especially for high heels.

Fast Flats are billed as a spare pair of shoes to slip on for nights out, weddings, walking through airports or other situations, such as commuting, when a long walk in high heels is to be avoided.

The products are the fruit of research by Dr. Scholl's that found 70% of women admit taking their shoes off after a night out because of discomfort, while 80% of women surveyed said aching feet affect their mood.

"While women love their stylish shoes, many feel they have to sacrifice comfort to wear them for an entire day or night," says Jay Morgan, vice president of research and development for Dr. Scholl's. "We know that's not the case, and we wanted to give women a great solution for their feet."

In July the company rolled out nationwide Dr. Scholl's Custom Fit Orthotic Centers. The in-store kiosks employ more than 2,000 pressure sensors that measure foot size, identify arch type and detect the areas where the most pressure is exerted. It then recommends the most suitable Dr. Scholl's Custom Fit Orthotic Insert.
